What Exhibitors Can Expect At An Appaloosa Regional Show:
· ApHC shows have Western and Hunt Seat classes that are similar to quarter horse and paint shows
· Western events include pleasure, horsemanship, halter, speed events, showmanship, and cow events
· Hunt seat events include hunter under saddle, equitation, showmanship, saddle seat, and jumping
What Exhibitors Can Expect From Hope Lock Farm:
· Riders have the opportunity to go to several regional appaloosa shows throughout the year
· Riders have the opportunity to go to the ApHC ( Appaloosa Horse Club) National and World shows
· Riders can expect to be given Gayle’s full attention during the shows

Exhibitors may show in a variety of categories:
· Walk-Trot classes are for exhibitors who are 10 years old or younger; loping and cantering are prohibited
· Novice Youth and Non-Pro classes are for exhibitors who have earned less than 50 points at any breed show
· Youth classes are for exhibitors are up to 18 years old
· Non-Pro classes are for exhibitors who are older than 18 years old and are not professional horse trainers
· Open classes include just about anyone, including youth, non-pro, and trainers (but not leadline or walk-trot)

· Appaloosa shows may also offer reigning, steer daubing, penning, roping, Heritage, side saddle, pleasure driving, and many more classes!

Leadline Equitation:
(6 years old or younger) The rider is judged on his or her basic position in the saddle. The horse is led by an adult, who does not help the rider.
Halter and Hunter-In-Hand:
Exhibitors present their horses to the judges. Emphasis is placed on conformation, action, substance, quality, and manners.
Showmanship:
Exhibitors are judged on their ability to present their horse on foot through a set pattern. Classes include both English and western.
Hunter Under Saddle:
Horses ride at a walk, trot, and canter around the riding ring, moving as if they are riding through the countryside following hounds.
Western Pleasure:
Horses ride at a walk, trot, and lope around the riding ring, displaying a reasonable stride while presenting a pleasant, smooth ride.
Horsemanship:
Riders demonstrate their ability to walk, trot, and canter through a pattern. Classes include western, hunt seat, bareback, and western riding.
Gaming (speed events):
Events include barrel races, pole bending, figure-8 stake races, keyhole, and rope races. At ApHC shows riders race against each other.

Riders are judged on their horse’s ability to negotiate obstacles. Emphasis is placed on manners, response to the rider, style, and carefulness.
Jumping:
Horses jump over obstacles and fences of a specific height while being judged on their ability and willingness to negotiate the course.
Saddle Seat:
Horses are judged on brisk gaits and presence while riders are judged on hands, seat, and legs and on their ability to ride and control their horse.
